Good morning all! Just a couple housekeeping things! 1) The Romeo and Juliet Review package is attached to this post. 2) Keep in mind that all late assignments are due in by THIS FRIDAY December 20th, by the end of the school day at the very latest. You will NOT be able to hand them in after this point. 3) Potluck tomorrow! Not everyone has signed up, so I will have it available again today in class. If you would like to contribute but are unsure what you are bringing, no pressure! Anything is appreciated! 4) Hope you are all ready for the test today! And know how to write an MLA citation.... Thanks and have an amazing day!! ~Ms. Mackey

Hey hey lights of my life! I've attached the forum assignment to this post. Just in case, though since you are all in groups, it shouldn't be too much of a concern! Remember, looking for about 5-8ish minutes per group, so that each forum lasts between 10 and 16 minutes. Looking forward to your end product tomorrow!! ~Ms. Mackey, teacher-intern extraordinaire :)
At this point, you should be decently far into your book. So tell me about it. What is the plot of the book? The overarching purpose?
Remember, in order to gain full marks, there needs to be evidence that you are reading in class. If you write a response and I have failed to see you read during the given time, you forfeit the marks. Your answer should be in full sentences, with a 4 sentence minimum. Proper spelling and grammar rules apply. -Ms. Mackey For those of you that are still missing the last two R+J assignments, I've attached the original assignment sheets in case you have misplaced yours. Remember, if you do not understand the assignment, you should visit me on your own time. I cannot devote an entire class to helping one person when there are 28 other students requiting my attention. I am in the classroom before and after school, as well as typically during lunchtime. You can also email me to set up a time to see me [email protected] Thanks! -Ms. Mackey
The question for your first reading response is as follows:
'Who is the main character in your book? What do they stand for? Please answer in 4-6 sentences. Please include the title of your book, as well as your name in the post (First name only) ~Ms. Mackey Hello upon this dreadfully cold Thursday Aft! Attached to this post are the review questions! Just in case your binder is 'accidentally' left at school or something ;) BONUS: For a possible +1 mark on your test, please doodle on the last page a representation of the book. Utilize any remaining time you have to put as much creativity and effort into this as you can!! Have an amazing night, good luck studying! And don't forget how amazing you all are!! ~Ms. Mackey

Hey there ELA 9! It's been like 5 minutes since I last saw you, and already the light is gone from my life... Anyways! I've attached both the letter assignment outline, the CH 21-25 Package. as well as the MLA formatting guide. Trust me when I say that you will need MLA format in the coming years, so feel free to download it so you have it in the future! RIP the Spotify playlist and my sanity, but here's the link again so you don't have to scroll waaaaay down in order to continue the madness. I hope you're all very proud of yourselves. Have an amazing long weekend guys! (And happy birthday on the 12th to Amiya and Gibson!) -Ms. Mackey
Hey sunflowers! We talked a bit today about how to effectively do the two things mentioned in the title, but I'd like to have it in written form for you as well, so this blog post will give you some advice on how to succeed!
STUDYING EFFECTIVELY -Refer back to any and all previously covered materials, such as questions, reader responses, vocabulary, etc that you have been asked to complete for the class -If you have the time, reread the book! If you lack the time, the internet has a ton of great resources on websites like Sparknotes that can help you review what happened throughout the novel. -Highlight important notes or write notes in different colours! This is a memorization technique that will help trigger information. Assigning colour to your notes can help you connect the colour to the point. -Study with other people. Quiz each other on different details and questions. You can do this with someone who is taking the same class and take turns, or can have a friend not in the class quiz you. -Create cue card notes. If your friends are all busy, you can do the questions and answer technique by writing the question on tr front of a card and the answer on the back! This also doubles as another memorization technique as by writing the answers out, you are also studying! -Chew gum while studying and while taking the test to use the gum as a stimuli to retain important information! -If you've been given questions in advance, make sure you practice answering them! -If allowed, use page flags to mark down where important quotes are within the text TEST-TAKING EFFECTIVELY -Before you even being your test, make sure to read through all the instructions! Underline or star any important guidelines. -Remember mark breakdown -> spend a minute per mark on each question. -If you don't know an answer, MOVE ON. Don't spend time pointlessly worrying over a question you are unsure of. This wastes precious time and you can always come back later on. In addition, it's always possible you might find the answer hidden within another question! -If you skip a question, star or circle it so you remember to complete it later -If you have a question, raise your hand, but move on. Each second you spend waiting for a teacher takes away from your time to write the test -If you notice an error, wait until after to let the teacher know if the question is still legible. This is a waste of your time for no reason -Don't spend time riffling through your book for every question. Multiple choice questions, short answers, and fill in the blanks are all meant to be completed without your text. Save the book for your long answers. You can always go back to the other questions once you've completed the large sections of a test. REMEMBER: Different things work for different people. Try out a bunch of things to find out what works best for you! |
